Crossfire ( Korean 크로스 파이어 ) is a free-to-play MMOFPS from the South Korean developers SmileGate and Neowiz. The international version was published on January 30, 2009. The first person shooter has similarities with games like Counter-Strike and War Rock .

Gameplay

The game is about two mercenary troops , the Black List Terrorists and the Global Risk soldiers , who fight each other. There are currently eight game modes: Team Deathmatch , Search and Destroy , Elimination Match, Free for all (Deathmatch) and the new special modes "Ghost Mode", "Predator Mode, Mutation Mode", "Hero Mode", "Shadow Mode", "Mutants vs. Ghosts", "WAVE", "Super-Soldier TD" and "Escape".

Experience points are awarded for certain achievements , with which one can advance in a ranking system or be awarded. It is also possible to buy items such as weapons. For this you need Game Points (GP), which you get in the course of the game.

Free-to-play

The game is based on the free-to-play principle. Players are given the opportunity to purchase special items against the real money currency Rage Points or Z8Points ( RP ). Special items are u. a. the so-called VVIP weapons which attract with a lot of experience . Your purchase price is 150,000 RP (= 150 €).

Thanks to the concept of free-to-play, Crossfire generated around 7.13 billion US $, making it the second top-selling game in the world.

Game modes

Team Deathmatch

Two teams have to compete against each other. The goal of the match is either a set number of kills or to have more kills than the other team within a given time frame (usually 12 minutes). A killed player is reborn after zero to ten seconds - this delay is determined by the player who started the game.

elimination

The elimination mode is a variant of a team death match : The aim is to defeat all members of the opposing team. Instead of a time limit, killed players are not respawned and can only re-enter in the next round. Whoever has won a certain number of rounds has won the match. A special feature is that in some maps the players only start with melee weapons and can pick up weapons that are distributed throughout the map.

Free for All

Free for All is a deathmatch in which there are no fixed teams, so every player plays against everyone. The goal is a certain number of kills (usually 30). When a player has reached this number, the round is over. Alternatively, you can play for time, whoever has the most “kills” at the end wins.

Search & Destroy

Each of the two teams has a different goal. The terrorists have to lay a C4 bomb in one of two freely selectable locations within a specified time frame , while the Global Risk Team is supposed to prevent this. A special feature here is that a bomb that has been placed can be defused beyond the time frame before it explodes.

The respective team receives one point for the successful explosion or prevention of this. Alternatively, points are awarded if all members of the opposing team have been killed. The winner is whoever has won a certain number of rounds.

Ghost mode

The Ghost Mode is a modification of the Search & Destroy mode with the same goals. However, the terrorists on the Black List team are "ghosts" - they become invisible when they are not moving and are otherwise only recognizable by their contours and loud breath, which can only be heard in the immediate vicinity of a ghost. However, they can only use melee weapons (knife, battle ax, shovel and katana).

Mutation fashion

At the beginning of a game, one or two players are infected by chance and turn into mutants after 20 seconds, with significantly more life points than other players, but without weapons at the same time. The aim of the mutants is to attack the other players and subtract 100 life points. A player infected in this way also turns into a mutant. The group of mutants wins if all players have been infected before the end of a given game time. If this does not succeed, the group of survivors wins.

If up to eight players take part in a game, the game starts with one infected person, otherwise with two. Mutants originally only had claws as melee weapons, but real money can be used to buy another mutant that has different special abilities. If an infected person stops, he regenerates life points.

Heromode

In Heromode, players are randomly infected and become mutants. One of the uninfected becomes a hero (in German: Held) and receives a special weapon that includes a grenade launcher and a powerful machine gun . The players now have to assert themselves against the mutants and try to survive a certain time. However, in this mode, the mutants can only be permanently killed in one round with a "headshot" (in German: headshot). It does not matter whether this is done with a knife or a weapon.

Mutants come in three tiers, which differ in appearance and skills:

  • An infected player becomes the basic level Slug . He runs faster and jumps higher than a normal soldier. He also has 2000 life points.
  • For Berserker is a player when he opened as a random infected players to the game, or if you have successfully infected two soldiers. The berserker has 4000 life points and has the option of being able to run faster for a short time in exchange for 500 life points.
  • For titanium , a berserk after he infected three other players. He then has 6000 life points and can continue to use the fast running ability of the berserker.

Predator Mode (Hero Mode X)

The Predator Mode is an extended form of the actual Hero Mode. The mutants only die by killing them with a melee weapon (knife, ax, keris etc.). By killing a normal firearm, a mutant is revived after 3 seconds (in English: respawned). However, he loses his skills in the process, because you are revived as a slug (see above). Furthermore, 4 new features have been added:

  • The recoil of the mutants after a soldier is shot is considerably less than in the normal Heromode or Mutation Mode.
  • Soldiers do 250% more damage to mutants (this percentage increases when mutants are killed).
  • (Requirement at least 9/12/16 players) If there are 8/11/15 mutants, the last / the last two / the last three soldiers become a berserk . This berserker is then equipped with 6000 life points and a "dual kukri" (two kukri).
  • It happens to be a Predator or a Rookr who has the ability to run faster. Regardless of whether this Xeno is killed by a gun, he will return with the same abilities and the same health points, in contrast to the normal mutants.

Escape mode

In Escape Mode , a team must first flee through a portal while the opposing team tries to prevent it. To make it easier to escape, walls and doors can be destroyed. Halfway through the time, the roles of the teams are switched. The aim is to reach the portal as often as possible within a given time or to prevent escape.

Zombie fashion

In zombie mode , players have to try to survive waves of zombies of different strengths and hold out to the last room. In doing so, they wander from room to room on some maps and are attacked by more and more zombies. A distinction is made between the following levels of difficulty:

  • Beg (Easy) (20 waves / rounds)
  • Int (Normal) (30 waves / laps)
  • Adv (difficult) (31 waves / laps)

Regardless of whether it is easy or normal, a final boss also appears. If this is defeated, the goal is achieved. By killing the final boss you also get bonuses that are based on your own number of points. On easy you only get "points" after the boss. On normal you not only get points, but also a so-called boss award (reward). There is a limit of 5 "Bossrewards" (ie after five times the ZombieMode has been set to normal).

Reward : You only get a small amount of Exp. (Experience, in German: experience points) and GP. (Gamepoints, the currency in the game), but so-called "boxes", in which various prizes (mostly weapons and items) are hidden and randomly take up space in the inventory after opening. The better the score at the end of the game, the greater the chance of a better win. This is also where the boss rewards find their place. If you have managed the final boss at normal level 5 times, you receive a special "box". In this, very good and worthwhile weapons, items and even characters are usually waiting.

  • Race Since February 5th there is a race mode in Crossfire EU.

In these, the player and his comrades have to drive along a canyon with hoverboards . B. Shoot targets or mutants to get extra points. A race lasts approx. 10 minutes and at the end of the race you receive a reward similar to the normal zombie mode reward.

Daily Missions

Since June 1, 2010, there is another system: In the daily missions (ger .: daily missions ) the player will receive rewards for achieving certain goals. So far there are only four types of missions:

  • achieve a certain number of kills (mostly on team deathmatch maps)
  • to achieve a certain number of victories
  • complete a certain number of games
  • a certain number of laps or points in biohazard (zombie mode)

For successfully completing the missions you receive items and experience points. Since February 2012 you can buy Daily Missions in both the American and the European version using the second currency RP (RealPoints, available by paying real money, through surveys, etc.) and doing your own mission freely own interest.

American version

The American version was released on January 30, 2009 in the United States, Canada, and Europe. It is not an exact copy of the South Korean original as it differs in many ways. It will be further developed separately from the South Korean original, but news from the South Korean original can also be found in the international version (e.g. the "Bunny Hopping" of the original version, which was updated in December 2009). In China, Japan and Vietnam there were country-specific versions before. The Mutation Mode was initially only reserved for the Chinese, Japanese and Vietnamese variants (there under the name Pandemic Mode ) and has also been playable in the international version since February 11, 2010. Since autumn 2011, Europeans have not been able to re-register with Z8Games.

European version

On September 21, 2011 the open beta of the European version of Crossfire began. This contains the same modes as the American Crossfire, but Crossfire Europe contains more maps, modes and weapons.
