Crossford is a town in the Scottish Council Area Fife . It is about two kilometers west of Dunfermline .
history
The name of the village indicates its location at a ford . According to tradition, it goes back to the monks of Dunfermline Abbey , who used a ford nearby on their way to Culross Abbey . The Tower House Pitfirrane Castle was once the seat of the family Halkett . Today it serves as the club house of the golf club, which operates a golf course there. With Logie House is located east of Crossford another tower house. In the past, Crossford was the location of weaving mills .
In 1961 there were 788 people in Crossford. By 1991 the population rose to 2,756. In the 2011 census survey, Crossford counted 2358 residents.
