The Crown Melbourne (also Crown Casino and Entertainment Complex ) is a casino and resort , located on the south bank of the Yarra River in the Australian city ​​of Melbourne . It belongs to the Crown Limited company and was their first casino.

The Crown Melbourne originally opened on the north bank of the Yarra in 1994, and then reopened at its current location three years later. It still shapes the cityscape of Melbourne's central business district on the south bank of the river. The area occupies an area of ​​510,000 m² and is and is therefore the largest casino complex in the southern hemisphere and one of the largest in the world.

Crown Casino

The Crown Casino opened on June 30, 1994 in the World Trade Center on the north bank of the Yarra River. This place was a temporary solution while the actual complex was being built on the south bank. The opening at the current location took place on May 8, 1997. Here, made the actress Rachel Griffiths headlines because they at the opening ceremony topless ran through the casino. The casino is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Exceptions are December 25th, Good Friday and ANZAC Day . Here the casino is closed between 4 a.m. and noon. It was founded and operated by Lloyd Williams and taken over from PBL by Kerry Packer in 1999 . Children under the age of 18 are not permitted to enter the casino or areas serving alcohol.

Gambling

In addition to other games, the Crown also offers the six most important casino games: Black Jack , Craps , Pai Gow , Poker , Baccarat and Roulette , and it was the first casino to introduce an electronic version of Roulette ( "Rapid Roulette" ).

Some blackjack tables only offer an in-house variant of the game called "BlackJack Plus" . This variant increases the bank advantage enormously from 0.5% at the regular tables to over 6% at the BlackJack Plus tables.

Every year the Crown hosts the Aussie Millions , the poker tournament with the largest prize pool in the southern hemisphere. The World Series of Poker Asia-Pacific also took place here in 2013 and 2014 .

There are 2,500 video poker machines in the casino, where you can play with stakes between a cent and a dollar. There are also machines with stakes up to five dollars in the VIP areas.

Other facilities in the complex

In addition to the casino, the Crown Entertainment Complex also has other offers such as night clubs, a game room with arcade machines , a laser dome and a bowling center . Several stores in the luxury segment are also represented, including Harrods , Prada , Burberry , Louis Vuitton , Bulgari , Rolex , Omega and Hugo Boss .

Hotels

There are three hotel towers in the Crown complex, a fourth is currently being planned:

  • Crown Towers : This skyscraper houses a five-star hotel with 481 rooms on 38 floors.
  • Crown Metropol : allegedly Australia's largest hotel by number of rooms: 658 on 28 floors.
  • Crown Promenade : a 4.5-star hotel with 465 rooms on 23 floors. It stands behind the Crown Towers and is connected to the main complex by a pedestrian bridge.
  • One Queensbridge : when completed, this skyscraper will be the tallest building in Australia at 323.6 meters. A 6-star hotel with 388 rooms is planned. Construction should already start in 2018, as of March 4, 2019 it has not yet taken place.

The Crown Hotels often accommodate celebrity guests. So here already have Tom Cruise , Katie Holmes , Kim Kardashian , Katy Perry , Nicole Kidman , Rachel Griffiths , One Direction , Keanu Reeves , Kerry Packer and Tiger Woods stayed. Roger Federer and other tennis players stay here during the Australian Open . There are tennis courts on one roof of the complex that can be used for training.
