Cruzeiro do Sul , officially Portuguese Município de Cruzeiro do Sul , German Cross of the South , is a municipality in the Brazilian state of Paraná . The population was estimated on July 1, 2019 at 4469 inhabitants, who live on a municipality area of around 259.1 km² and are called Cruzeirenser-do-Sul. It is located 510 km from the capital Curitiba in the northwestern hinterland and is 317th of the 399 municipalities of the state. Poultry farming is the main employer in agriculture .
history
The place arose from a settlement project of the then Companhia de Terras Norte do Paraná , the municipality was initially under the Munizip Nova Esperança and was raised to an independent municipality on December 26, 1955.

Surrounding communities are Paranacity , Uniflor and Lobato . Paraná belongs to the geostatistical Região Sul (southern region).
climate
The community has a tropical temperate climate, Cfa according to the Köppen and Geiger climate classification . The average temperature is 20.7 ° C. The average rainfall is 1295 mm per year.
Population development
After an initial internal migration, the community lost over half of its population in the last 50 to 60 years, the rural population increasingly concentrated on the main town or moved to other areas.

In 2017, the monthly average income was 2.2 times the Brazilian minimum wage ( Salário mínimo ) of R $ 880.00 (converted for 2019: around € 438). The Human Development Index (HDI) is rated high at 0.713 for 2010. The gross national product per capita was R $ 39,061.29 in 2016.
In 2017, 561 people or 12.1% of the population were registered as being employed; 32.7% of the population had an income of half the minimum wage. In September 2019, 289 families or 14.66% of the families classified as poor by the IBGE received support through the Bolsa Família program .
