Cupriavidus is a bacteria - genus in the family burkholderiaceae .

It includes short, rod-shaped, Gram-negative , chemoorganoheterotrophic bacteria that move with 2 to 10 perithric flagella . They have catalase , oxidase and nitrate reductase . They occur in soil and can dissolve other bacteria there. It is characterized by an extensive insensitivity to copper ions.

The genus includes the former genus Wautersia and former representatives of the genera Alcaligenes and Ralstonia . The type species Cupriavidus necator , which is used, among other things, for the production of biopolymer, is of particular interest .
