Curarrehue (in Mapudungun : kura rewe , 'altar of the stone') is a community in Chile . It is located in the province of Cautín in the Región de la Araucanía . West the municipalities border Pucón and Cunco to the east of the village there is Argentina . To the south it shares a border with the municipality of Panguipulli . The municipality was founded on January 8, 1981, after it became independent from Pucón after a territorial reform in 1980.

geography

Currarehue is 152 km from the regional capital Temuco . Along the road to the Mamuil Malal Pass, native forests of pellin beeches , raulis and giant Chilean araucarias can be seen. An approach to the Lanín border volcano begins at the pass road.

history

The first European explorations in the region took place after the founding of the nearby village of Villarrica in 1551. At the end of the 19th century and beginning of the 20th century, numerous Mapuche families came to the place after the Chilean military left the suburban part of the region occupied and the European settlement in this zone was forced. Another migration flow took place between the 1920s and 1930s after Chilean families sought new horizons during the economic crisis and settled in Currarehue. Many of them found jobs in agriculture and the livestock trade. The road from Villarica to the Mamuil Malal pass , which is used as an international pass road to Argentina , was also built during this period . Many of the residents of Currarehue are busy building and maintaining it. With this immigration process, Currarehue and the places Puesco, Carén, Trancura, Reigolil, Quiñenahuín, Maite, Puala, Huincapalihue, Rukako, Panqui, Loncofilo, Huampoe and Palguín, which are located within the municipal boundary, were created.
