background
The scripts for the series were written by Giovanni Galassi , Ivano Fachin and Tommaso Matano . The production company Indiana Productions is producing the series on behalf of Netflix. The series is broadcast worldwide on the streaming provider Netflix. The shooting of the series took place mainly in Graun im Vinschgau , in Italian Curon , in South Tyrol near the border with Austria and Switzerland. The Reschensee and the steeple of the old Graun parish church of St. Katharina are of central importance . The story of the series takes place against the background of mysterious occurrences in the place, which are related to the story and the flooding of the old place.
The series is essentially based on stories and myths that surround the sunken villages of Graun and Reschen. The tower of St. Catherine Church is all that remains of the original villages that used to be here. In 1950 both villages were demolished and rebuilt elsewhere in order to create an artificial reservoir for electricity supply. The film series builds on the myth that the bells removed from the tower would ring under certain conditions; those who hear the ringing of bells are doomed to die.
The trailer for the series was released on June 3rd.
action
After 17 years Anna returns with her twins to her home village, from which she was expelled by her father Thomas after the murder of her mother. After separating from her husband, she tries to feel at home again in the old hotel in the town, which is owned by her family and where her father still lives. However, the latter welcomes her and makes it clear that she should not stay in the house and in the village. The children, Daria and Mauro, go to school at home, where they get to know the local youth, who are also hostile to them, and they get into some conflicts. Daria befriends Micki at a party, who falls in love with her. Meanwhile, Anna disappears in the mountains and Thomas and later the children go on a search. They learn of a love affair Micki's father Albert had with Anna before she left the place.
