Curt Gagel

Curt Friedrich August Wilhelm Gagel (born February 7, 1865 in Heiligenbeil in East Prussia , † January 22, 1927 in Lüneburg ) was a German geologist .

Life

Gagel, the son of a businessman, studied at the University of Königsberg , where he obtained his doctorate in 1890 on the subject of the Brachiopods of the Cambrian and Silurian bed load in the Diluvium of the provinces of East and West Prussia . During his studies he became a member of the Königsberg fraternity in Gothia in 1884 . He then worked in the soil science department of the Prussian State Geological Institute in Berlin , initially as a district geologist and then as a state geologist. 1903-1907 he carried out geological studies, including on Madeira . During World War I he was deployed as a war geologist on the Eastern Front. In 1924 he became department director of the collections of the Prussian State Geological Institute. In the following years he carried out over 50 mappings on measuring table sheets . In 1925 he made a study on La Gomera . Gagel later inherited the lime works in Lüneburg. He took over their management and dealt with the amelioration of the soil.

Curt Gagel died two weeks before his 62nd birthday in Lüneburg in 1927 and was buried in the St. Annen churchyard in Berlin-Dahlem . The grave has not been preserved.
