The queen lady's slipper ( Cypripedium reginae ) is a species of the genus Cypripedium in the orchid family (Orchidaceae).

The queen lady's slipper is a perennial plant with a rhizome that reaches heights of 21 to 90 centimeters. The three to nine leaves are distributed on the stem, they are oval-shaped and measure 10 to 27 × 5 to 16 centimeters. The terminal inflorescence bears one to three, rarely four flowers . The outer and inner tepals are white. The upper outer tepal is 3 or more than 3 inches long. The lip is 2.2 to 5 centimeters long and tinged with pink on a white background. The staminodium is heart-shaped-oval to broadly lanceolate.

Flowering time is from May to August.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 20.

Occurrence

The queen lady's slipper occurs in warm temperate to temperate eastern North America in moist coniferous forest edges, moist deciduous forests, wet meadows , prairies , in depressions and moist dune valleys on neutral and calcareous soils. It colonizes altitudes from sea level to about 600 meters. The distribution area includes central and eastern Canada and the north-central and eastern United States.

The queen lady's slipper is rarely used as an ornamental plant in rock gardens and bog beds. The species has been in culture since 1731 at the latest.
