history
Dänkritz was first mentioned in a document in 1347 in connection with Sifrid von Denkerichs . Other place name forms were Denkeriz , Den (c) kericz and Den (c) keritz . The administration of the place took place at the time also in Lauterbach, 3 kilometers away.
In 1633 during the Thirty Years War , Dänkritz was burned down and destroyed. The plague and a famine claimed many lives, and in 1640 many residents left the place.
The original settlement of Dänkritz was carried out by Franconian farmers. Evidence of this is also the typical building shape of the farms in the village - the Franconian Dreiseitenhof . Some of these half-timbered buildings are still standing today and have been placed under monument protection. The place is a typical " scattered village" according to its settlement structures . The settlement took place along the local roads. The “Dänkritzer Schmiede” from 1620, which already served as a rest stop in the stagecoach era, is particularly well-known. Opposite it is the forester's house , from where the maintenance of the local recreation area “Harthwald” and the Hege are operated.
