Dé Kessler

Johann Heinrich Hermann "Dé" Kessler (born August 11, 1891 in Garoet , Dutch East Indies , † September 6, 1943 in Bilthoven ; also Deetje Kessler ) was a Dutch football player who played from 1909 to 1922 in the Dutch national team. In addition to his playing career, he studied law and graduated as Meester in de right (similar to Master of Law ) and a doctorate from.

The attacking player , mostly used as a center forward, played like his brother Tonny and his cousins Boelie and Dolf for HVV Den Haag . Dé Kessler made his first game for HVV on October 6, 1907, with which he became Dutch champions in 1910 and 1914 . Until his last match on March 11, 1923, he scored 184 goals in 287 games for the Hague .

On March 21, 1909, the 17-year-old was appointed to the squad of the Nederlands Elftal for the first time , together with his more experienced club mates Karel Heijting , Guus Lutjens and team captain Miel Mundt . On his debut in Antwerp against Belgium , he contributed the second goal to his team's 4-1 victory. A hundred years later, Kessler is the fourth youngest debutant and the second youngest scorer in the national team.

He made six international matches by April 1910, the last in a 4-2 win over the team from the German Reich , which was followed by a three-year break. Only fifteen international matches later did he make his comeback on March 24, 1913, in the historic first win against England's amateurs . By May 7, 1922, when he came again against Belgium for his last appearance in Orange , he played a total of 21 international games and scored nine goals, but could not take part in the Olympic Games in 1912 or in those of 1920 . Dé Kessler was the team captain eight times .
