The Dólmen da Orca (also Lapa da Orca ) is located above the Rio Mondego in the village of Fiães da Telha in the municipality of Oliveira do Conde , near the N 234 between Carregal do Sal and Nelas , south of Viseu in the Região Centro in Portugal . Lapa or Anta are Portuguese names that correspond to the international term dolmen .

Dolmen da Orca

The Anta- type megalithic complex is located on a hill in a pine and eucalyptus plantation . The Dolmen da Orca was first excavated in 1895 and re-examined in 1986 and 1987. The capstone and the long corridor with the locking stone are well preserved. The chamber is a model of how the rear wall and thus the entire chamber were made wider by means of pillar-like bearing stones to the right and left of the front stone. Each of these bearing stones is followed by three additional bearing stones, overlapping in the shape of a roof tile. The chamber locking stone rests on the two lower supporting stones that form the chamber entrance, which together with another yoke form an antechamber to which the passage adjoins.

The more recent excavations have provided evidence of a semicircular atrium in front of the corridor. Ceramics , microliths , arrowheads , slate beads in the shape of a disc and a bronze dagger should be mentioned in particular . The latter and some of the ceramics point to a subsequent use of the facility during the Bronze Age .
