The Dômes de Miage form a chain of up to 3673 m high mountain peaks on the border of the French and Italian part of the Mont Blanc massif in the Savoy Alps .
geography
The Dômes de Miage essentially consist of an approx. 2 km long ice and rock ridge that slopes steeply on both sides in a southwest-northeast orientation. All the secondary peaks except for one and the main peak are on French territory, the border with Italy only reaches the ridge south of the Col de Miage at the northernmost pre-peak , only the north-eastern flank of the mountain is entirely in Italy. The ridge forms five peaks, which are separated approximately in the middle by the 3564 m high Col des Dômes , with three peaks south and two north of it. Since almost the entire ridge is glaciated and three peaks are located in an altitude range of 3670 to 3673 m, both the height information and the exact naming of the highest elevation of the ridge vary in the literature. Generally the second northernmost is considered to be the highest point of the ridge.
Ascent
The normal route leads from Le Cugnon , a district of Les Contamines-Montjoie at 1180 m, initially over wooded slopes to the Hotel de Tré la Tête at 1970 m. You can spend the night there or continue to climb over the Glacier de Tré la Tête and an approx. 100 m high, very steep ladder passage to the Refuge des Conscrits at 2602 m. From there, you can choose the route over the Glacier de Tré la Tête to the Col des Dômes and then to the summit. Alternatively, an initially steep and, towards the end, challenging ascent to the rocky summit of the Aiguille de la Bérangère (3425 m), which forms the southern end of the Miage ridge, is possible. From there you reach the steep, southern ice field of the Dômes de Miage via the Col de la Bérangère (3348 m), which can be crossed in combination with the above glacier tour. Alternatively, the crossing of the Miages can also be extended via the two northern peaks to Refuge Durier at 3389 m, which is located in the saddle between the Miages and the Aiguille de Bionnassay .
