Döben is a district of Barby in Saxony-Anhalt .

history

Döben was first mentioned in a document in 1305 as de Devene . The place name should come from Old Sorbian and derive from a personal name děva or directly from the meaning virgin, young girl . At times the place was called Groß Döben , to distinguish it from the southern and younger Klein Döben .

The place was at times desolate . The village church from the 13th century has been preserved from the original location. The farm and as Vorwerk serving of Barby place was in 1767 by the Moravian Church in leasehold acquired. This religious community then built the town of Gnadau north of Döben, which still exists today . In 1910 the manor Döben had 80 inhabitants. On September 1, 2010 Döben was incorporated as a district from Gnadau to Barby.
