geography

The brook rises in Rheinhessen Switzerland south of Stein-Bockenheim at an altitude of 190  m above sea level. NHN . From here the stream flows mainly in a northerly direction and passes through the villages of Stein-Bockenheim, Wonsheim , Eckelsheim and Gumbsheim before it reaches the north of Wöllstein at 125  m above sea level. NHN flows into the Appelbach on the right .

The Dunzelbach overcomes a height difference of 65 m on its 7.7 km long path, which corresponds to a mean bed gradient of 8.4 ‰. It drains a 30.365 km² catchment area via Appelbach , Nahe and Rhine to the North Sea , which is why the brook belongs to the river system of the Rhine.

When considering the length of the river, the 1.9 km long, often dry upper course is not taken into account by the Rhineland-Palatinate Water Management Authority. Taking this section into account, the total length is 9.6 km.

Tributaries

The largest tributary is the 3.3 km long Rohrbach , whose catchment area with a size of 7.513 km² makes up around 1/4 of the entire catchment area.

In the following, the tributaries of the Dunzelbach are named in the order from the source to the mouth, which are managed by the Rhineland-Palatinate water management authority. In each case, the orographic position of the mouth, the length, the size of the catchment area, the altitude of the mouth and the river code are given.
