The DÜRKOP GmbH is a German multi-brand car dealership group. Approx. 850 employees work at 20 locations in five federal states.

history

In 1919 Erich Dürkop founded a two-wheeler and car repair workshop in Braunschweig . In 1927 Dürkop received the general agency for Chevrolet and then contracts for the Buick , Oldsmobile , Pontiac and Cadillac brands from General Motors Corporation . In 1931 he took over the general agency for the Harz - Heide area. In addition, engine repairs, bodywork and paint shop, saddlery and express inspection service were set up.

In 1961, the company built the first automobile exhibition high-rise in Germany based on the American model in Braunschweig on Helmstedter Strasse . Between 1966 and 1968, facilities were opened in Wolfsburg and Goslar . Company founder Erich Dürkop died in 1969.

In 1988 the Dürkop Group opened a facility in Peine . In 1989, Nürnberger Versicherung acquired a stake in the Dürkop Group. In the following years, the Dürkop Group bought Opel car dealerships in Kassel and Bad Hersfeld . In mid-1991 a company was opened on the former site of the Opel subsidiary in Magdeburg . With the takeover of the Kühn car dealership in Hanover , Dürkop has been represented in the Lower Saxony state capital since 1992. In 1993, Dürkop Holding AG was founded and the consolidation and structuring of the Opel, General Motors and Saab retail and service group in Lower Saxony, Hesse and Saxony-Anhalt began. In 1994 the Dürkop Group participated in Automobil Commercial Berlin and in the establishment of the Carena used car market in Dahlwitz-Hoppegarten . Between 1993 and 1999, new car dealerships were established in Magdeburg, Kassel and Göttingen. One of the largest Opel dealerships in Europe was built in Kassel.

In 2007, the Dürkop Group took over seven Auto Commercial GmbH dealerships in Berlin and Brandenburg . In 2008 the headquarters of the Dürkop Group in Braunschweig was rebuilt and another branch was opened in the north of Braunschweig.

As part of a multi-brand strategy, Kia Motors 2004, Fiat - Alfa Romeo and Lancia 2006, and Chevrolet (formerly Daewoo) 2008 and Ford 2010 were added to the sales program as additional main brands alongside Opel. In 2011 another branch was opened in Celle (formerly Autohaus Maussner). In 2012 the car dealership group was expanded to include three more branches (formerly Schünemann and Herrmann) in Hildesheim and Alfeld (Leine) and Berlin Prenzlauer Berg. The two new locations in Hildesheim and Alfeld have added the manufacturers Dacia and Renault in service and sales to the brand portfolio, and the Jeep brand at the end of 2013. The group currently comprises 20 dealership branches, making it one of the largest multi-brand dealers in Germany.

On January 1, 2015, the majority of the Dürkop shares were taken over by the Hamburg Ernst Dello Group. Even if the independence of the multi-brand houses operating in different regions with a focus on Opel will be retained, the merger will create an overall company with around 1,400 employees and total sales of around 700 million euros. This makes the entire group the sixth largest German car dealer and the second largest Opel dealer after AVAG Holding .
