D'eux is the thirteenth album by the Canadian singer Celine Dion . It was released on April 3, 1995 on the Columbia Records label.
prehistory
Before the album D'eux , Dion had already released nine French-language albums. With the first eight, she was largely successful only in Canada. Her first album, Unison , recorded in English and sold three million copies worldwide, made her known in other countries. Her ninth French-language album Des mots qui sonnent achieved double platinum status in Canada and France . With the English-language albums Celine Dion and The Color of My Love , Dion became a world star from 1992 onwards.
History and description
The initiative for D'eux came from the French singer and composer Jean-Jacques Goldman , who suggested that she write an entire album for her. In November and December 1994 the songs were recorded in the Méga studio in Paris .
The album was released on March 27, 1995 in France and the day after in Canada. More than a million copies were sold within five months, ultimately a total of ten million worldwide. In 2012 it was the best-selling French-language album in music history and, with four million copies, the best-selling album in France. The decoupled song Pour que tu m'aimes encore , which was released on March 13, 1995, was the best-selling single in France for twelve weeks . The second release Je sais pas was a number 1 hit in October 1995 .
