history

The German David Gottlob Jüngling emigrated from Aldingen (now a part of Remseck am Neckar ) to the United States in 1823 . His father Friedrich Jüngling was already a beer brewer who ran a local brewery in the rooms of Aldinger Castle . David Jüngling Anglicized his last name to Yuengling and founded the Eagle Brewery in Pottsville in 1829 . When Jünglings son Frederick joined the brewery in 1873, the name was changed to D. G. Yuengling and Son , but the bald eagle was retained as the logo. In the late 19th century, breweries were also established in Saratoga , New York City , and Trail , British Columbia . Due to the strong growth of the original brewery in Pottsville, the other breweries were finally closed and production was concentrated on Pottsville.

During the alcohol prohibition in the United States, the brewery survived due to the sale of thin beer , a dairy that produced ice cream , and dance halls in Philadelphia and New York City . On the day the 18th Amendment to the United States Constitution was repealed , then President Roosevelt received a truckload of beer from Yuengling in recognition - although Yuengling beer typically takes three weeks to make.

In the 1970s, Yuengling also suffered from the rise of the commercially successful, US-wide large breweries. According to his own statements, Yuengling survived due to the high demand in his home county Schuykill .

Today, Yuengling operates next to the brewery in Pottsville that the 1985 National Register of Historic Places has been added, breweries in the neighboring Port Carbon , and in Tampa ( Florida ). Yuengling's markets encompass the entire east coast and extend to Ohio in the west .

Products

Yuengling's annual output is 1.2 million US barrels (1.43 million hectoliters ), which was sixth in the US in 2005. The main sales are achieved with the “traditional lager ”, furthermore bottom-fermented porter , pilsner and ale are produced.
