The Henschel DH 850 D is a four-axle diesel locomotive with rod drive , which was designed for heavy shunting and medium-duty line service. 14 copies of it were built by Henschel in Kassel from 1957 to 1963 and used in various industrial companies as well as on some private railways. Many locomotives are still available in Saarland and Italy , although some visual reports were up to ten years ago.

development

The locomotive belongs to the third generation of Henschel diesel locomotives and has a diesel-hydraulic drive system and a rod drive . The type designation indicates the type of power transmission, the engine power in HP and the wheel alignment.

The majority of the 14 locomotives built went to larger companies in Germany, and they also received:

technology

The locomotive with a central driver's cab has two different sized stems for the machine system. The bevels of the front end to improve the driver's view of the route are characteristic.

The diesel engine, a water-cooled 12-cylinder four-stroke diesel engine from Mercedes-Benz , is located in the lower stem and the fluid transmission from Voith in larger ones. Power is transmitted by a cardan shaft under the cab floor. A reversing gear is arranged after the fluid transmission; the axles are driven via a centrally mounted jackshaft , drive rods and coupling rods. To improve cornering, the drive wheels are arranged in Beugniot frames , which enable the vehicles to negotiate curve radii of up to 80 meters.

Some locomotives were equipped with a steam heater , the locomotives are equipped with the indirect brake type Knorr. As a signaling device, they had a bell in addition to the usual devices .

commitment

Hersfeld Kreisbahn 30 and 31

The Hersfeld Kreisbahn received the first locomotive from Henschel in 1959 and named it 30 . A second followed three years later, called 31 . In contrast to the 30 , it had been given a steam heater to also transport passenger trains on the circular path. This could be seen externally at the ends of the larger porch that were not cut off. With increasing train loads, the performance of the two locomotives was soon no longer sufficient, so that the V 320 001 was used. The two Henschel DH 800 D were then sold to Italy in 1977.

Söhrebahn 4 and 5

The two locomotives delivered to the Söhrebahn were taken over by the Deutsche Bundesbahn after the end of operations there in 1970 , which classified them as class 279 with the numbers as 279 001 and 279 002 in their numbering scheme. The former No. 4 went to Italy in 1971 for the private railway company Azienda Consorziale Trasporti di Reggio Emilia in Reggio Emilia . The other locomotive was leased to various private railways from 1971 and came to ACT in Italy in the same year. In 2009 both locomotives went to Ferrovie Emilia Romagna together with the railway division of ACT . They have been owned by the private EVU Dinazzano Po since 2012 , where they are still in use today.

Butzbach-Licher Railway V 85

This locomotive was delivered in 1961 and served here for over 20 years. The locomotive was sold to ACT in Italy in 1980. In 2009 it went to the FER, like the copies already existing at ACT, which were formerly owned by the Söhretalbahn and in 2012 to Dinazzano Po.
