The railcars 137 055 to 057 and 137 111 to 116 were a series of railcars that were originally built with 300 hp for the Deutsche Reichsbahn as a 300 hp main rail car .

history

Reichsbahn time

After the positive results of the prototype cars DR 137 025 to 027 , the DRG ordered three railcars of the same design from the Linke-Hoffman works in Breslau , which were delivered in 1934. In 1935, six more vehicles followed by the same company. At the same time, control cars were also procured for the vehicles.

All nine railcars were initially used in the Allenstein depot in East Prussia . During wartime, the vehicles were initially parked for a long time. It was not until 1941/42 that they were put back into operation for the purposes of the Wehrmacht .

Post war era

All railcars survived the Second World War . Two vehicles, 137 055 and 137 111, came to the ČSD , where it is known of the VT 137 055 that it continued to be operated as M 261.001 from 1945 to 1951 . It was then converted into a CDalm sidecar and continued to be used until 1960. The vehicle was taken out of service after a fire.

The 137 112 remained with the DR in the GDR , where it was retired in 1969.

All other railcars came to the DB , where they were designated as VT 51.0 (first series) and VT 51.1 (second series). They were used in Frankfurt am Main and taken out of service around 1955. The two railcars of the first series had already been converted into the VS 145 407 control cars (from 1968 945 907-4) and 408, which were dismantled in 1966 and 1972. The VT 137 116 came to the Bremervörde-Osteholzer Eisenbahn (since 1981 EVB ) after retirement and was used there as the T 170. The vehicle has been preserved and is looked after by railway enthusiasts in Zeven.

technical description

The structure of the vehicles is similar to that of the prototype vehicle , except that the apron has been omitted. In principle, they are constructed in a similar way to the better-known 302 kW railcars . The only difference is the engine with the OM 85 with 300 HP instead of 410 HP. As a result, the top speed was inevitably lower. The car body was also slightly different and adapted for operation on less frequented main lines.
