The DGB legal protection GmbH , based in the North Rhine-Westphalian state capital Dusseldorf is a subsidiary of the German Trade Union Federation (DGB) and provides legal services for union members and member unions of the DGB.
history
On November 1, 1894, the first workers' secretariat opened in Nuremberg , a contact point for workers seeking rights. It thus marks the beginning of institutionalized legal aid as part of union work. Today legal protection is a natural part of the membership services of a union.
activities
DGB Rechtsschutz GmbH primarily advises members of the DGB trade unions and also represents them in front of the courts , in particular in labor , social and administrative jurisdiction . In addition, she also looks after works and staff councils , which are supported by members of a DGB union, and provides legal advice to the DGB and its member unions .
In addition to classic labor law disputes such as dismissal protection proceedings and claims for remuneration, DGB Rechtsschutz GmbH also represents union members in social law proceedings such as sickness benefits or pension issues. She also supports civil servants in proceedings before the administrative courts .
Legal services are provided by legal secretaries and lawyers .
structure
The company is managed by the managing director Reinhard-Ulrich Vorbau , who is supported by the authorized signatories Claudia Schmidt and Karlheinz Schierle.
The company's 111 offices across Germany are assigned to five regions, each of which is subordinate to a regional management. In addition, the Trade Union Center for Revision and European Law , based in Kassel, takes on proceedings before the federal courts ( BAG , BSG , BVerwG ), before the European Court of Human Rights and the Court of Justice of the European Union .
More than a quarter of a billion euros, exactly 257 167 019 euros, was won by the union's legal protection against the labor, social and administrative courts for the members of the eight DGB unions.
