The handball players of the DJK Schwarz-Weiß

In November 1967, the handball department was founded, and games began in 1969. In the 1969/70 season, the DJK women played in the district class. In 1976 black and white won the district cup and has since played in the association league.

In 1982 the next success followed: The DJK secured the Hessen Championship and rose to the Regionalliga Südwest. Already in the second season, 1983/84, they won second place, which was followed a year later by the new runner-up. In the 1985/86 season there was a further increase: The DJK women won the championship of the Regionalliga Südwest, Season North, and then prevailed in two relegation games against the Südstaffel-Meister Südwest Ludwigshafen . So you were Southwest German champion and promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga.

1986 was not just the year with the greatest success in the club's history. In the same year, the men's team (founded in 1973) had to be dissolved due to a lack of players and the 2nd and 3rd women's teams were relegated from the upper or district league.

The 1st team, however, continued on their path to success. Between 1986 and 1989 black and white became a fixture in the 2nd Bundesliga South . And in the DHB-Pokal they played their way up to the quarter-finals, before failing at the eventual winner VfL Engelskirchen .

Then in 1989/90 the first attack on the top of the table: With 36: 8 points they finished third behind the two Hessian rivals TV Mainzlar (39: 5) and TSV Rot-Weiß Auerbach (36: 8). A year later, with 40: 4 points, the title was within reach, but VfL Sindelfingen (42: 2) came out on top in the end. In 1991/92 the time had finally come: The 262-time GDR national player Katrin Mietzner, who was world champion in 1978, moved to the DJK and, together with the new coach Volker Ligges (previously at Bayer Leverkusen ) , led the team to the top of the table in the 2. Bundesliga South . With 41: 3 points and ten points ahead of 1. FC Nürnberg , the leap into the promotion round to the 1. Bundesliga , where four supposedly high hurdles awaited with SG GutsMuths / BTSV Berlin , SV Süd Braunschweig , Hastedter TSV and TSG Wismar . But: The A-youth had to form a syndicate with TuS Eintracht Wiesbaden and the B-youth had to be withdrawn from gaming. The neglect of youth work was to take bitter revenge.

The opening success in Braunschweig was followed by a clear 33: 9 home win against Hastedt and a 23:16 in Wismar, so that the last home game against Berlin had to bring the decision. On May 23, 1992 in front of 600 spectators in the sports hall on Elsässer Platz, the black and whites prevailed with 22:20, and the promotion to the 1st Bundesliga was made. But the jubilation over qualifying for the elite league was soon followed by disillusionment. Since no other donor was found besides the main sponsor and debts had accumulated from the past, the “Bundesliga adventure” had to be tackled with a small budget. At the end of the 1992/93 season there was then five wins, 13:35 points and 11th place, the sporting league. Since the main sponsor also withdrew for the new season, the only option left was to withdraw from the Bundesliga in order not to endanger the existence of the entire club. In 1994 he withdrew from the 1st district league and in 1995 the game was stopped.
