from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

DJ DSL (* around 1969 as Stefan Biedermann in Vienna ) is an Austrian DJ and music producer . His style is mainly characterized by hip-hop and trip-hop .

Surname

According to the biography on his label's website, “D” stands for “DJ”, “S” for “Super” and “L” for “Leiwand” - a dialect expression that can be roughly translated as “very good”. In full, his name would be “DJ DJ Super Leiwand”, or “-Supergut” in High German.

Live and act

Biedermann grew up in the 3rd district of Vienna, Landstrasse , and has been playing, mixing and scratching records, known as " DJing ", which he learned autodidactically since his early youth .

He won the Austrian DMC championship twice in a row and thus qualified for the DJ World Championship in London. At the end of the 1980s he was a member of the hip-hop quartet The Moreaus , which included Peter Kruder . Since around 1987, after completing his community service , he has been working full-time as a DJ.

He made his first contribution to a publication with the disco-pop number of his brother Klaus Biedermann, Edelweiß , where he is responsible for the scratches occurring in the piece and later as “Mr. Speck ”appeared in“ Raumschiff Edelweiß ”. In 1990 he scratched the Falco album Data de Groove .

In 1995 he was named Best DJ by the German music magazine Spex .

His first album # 1 was released on November 4, 2002 on G-Stone Recordings , the Kruder & Dorfmeister label. The remixes on it are a selection from the previous years of his work. It stayed in the Austrian album sales charts for three weeks and reached 55th as the highest position. The single from it, Happy Bear , is a cover version of the 70s hit Popcorn , which in turn is based on a composition by Gershon Kingsley .

DSL regularly spins together with Ms. Bass every last Thursday of the month in Hamburg's Golden Pudel Club .
