history

The DTV was founded in 1984. The trigger was the emerging changes in the overall tobacco product market, especially the increased requirements of nationally operating companies and the demand for a national supplier with tobacco expertise. The group initially consisted of twelve founding companies. In the preliminary phase, a detailed concept for the joint sales company was developed in working groups. Of the twelve founding members, two left later, while others came on board. These included three start-ups in the new federal states. There were no mergers in-house, but specialist wholesalers were repeatedly taken over from outside. In 1985 the group achieved a turnover of 1.6 billion DM, which increased within ten years to 5 billion DM. The group currently has a turnover of around 3 billion euros. It is Europe's largest and most successful group tobacco products.

Market position

The group's turnover is around 3 billion euros. This makes it the market leader among the groups in the German tobacco product market. The group reaches around 15,000 retailers a month with its own specialist trade publication DIREKT. It has its own product and service brands such as "CONVENT" (cigarettes, fine cut, tubes, lighter gas) and "DTV prepaidline" (devices, services and products from all common prepaid providers). The group operates around 140,000 cigarette machines.

There is close cooperation with the "DTV retail systems" franchise system. This includes over 200 retail stores of the "Tabac & co", "COME IN" and "PW Tobacco" brands.
