The film deals with the liberation of Denmark from German occupation , the end of the Second World War in May 1945 and accordingly consists mainly of corresponding, contemporary image material. Film recordings are presented from the following locations: the office building of Aabenraa , the Copenhagen-Kastrup airport , the Flensburg Fjord with the city of Flensburg , where the last imperial government was in May 1945 in the special area of Mürwik , Fyn , Haderslev , the city of Kiel and the Lüneburg Heath , where the surrender of all German troops in northwest Germany, the Netherlands and Denmark took place on the Timeloberg near Wendisch Evern . The people to be seen in the 1945 footage used are: Karl Dönitz , the British Major General Richard Henry Dewing , the Danish businessman and resistance fighter Ole Lippmann , Vilhelm Buhl , John Christmas Møller , Bernard Montgomery and the Danish King Frederik IX.

The television documentary was first broadcast on May 4, 1980 (the thirty-fifth anniversary of the surrender of all German troops in north-west Germany, the Netherlands and Denmark) on the first Danish television station of Danmarks Radio . As Ole Brage mentions at the beginning of the film, this was the first time that some previously unseen war footage of the liberation of Denmark was presented to Danish television viewers.
