The Daberbach , also Daberlesbach , is an orographically left tributary of the Tauernbach in the Lienz district (East Tyrol). It is located in the north of the municipality of Matrei in East Tyrol .

Location and course

The Daberbach is fed by the Dabersee , in which the meltwater from the northeastern Daberkee gathers. Starting from the outflow of the Dabersee, the Daberbach initially flows slowly in a south-westerly direction down the valley, changing its direction at around 2350  m above sea level. A. meters height to west-northwest, before he finally from a height of around 2000  m above sea level. A. begins to drop more and more steeply and changes its direction to west-south-west or south-west. At around 1950  m above sea level. A. the Daberbach takes on a short side stream on the right. In the canyon-like lower course, the Felbertauern Straße , which was newly built in this area between 2014 and 2015, leads in two bends over the Daberbach, which means that the Daberbach is spanned by three bridges. South of the Ruggentaleralm, the Daberbach finally flows into the Tauernbach shortly after it has passed the road that branches off from the Felbertauernstraße to the Matreier Tauernhaus .

fauna and Flora

In the area of the confluence of the Daberbach in the Tauernbach, there are pastures structured by knolls and troughs, which have a relatively species-rich population of bristle grass. The entire course of the Daberbach is unobstructed and is only affected by human interference through occasional dredging in the estuary section and the crossings of Felbertauern Straße. In the lower reaches up to the beginning of the gorge stretch, the Daberbach is considered to be a fishing water, which offers the fish from the Tauernbach entry and retreat opportunities. The gorge itself is characterized by gullies on the rock, small waterfalls, Kolk-Furt sequences and small expansions with branches. Alongside the stream, there are various types of willow and green alder, as well as light larch-spruce mixed forest in non-rocky locations. Stones in the stream bed and the rock slopes are overgrown with deciduous mosses, lichens and bear mosses, and in the area of the source entrances there are also protected starburst and stonebreaker mats.

use

At the Daberbach there is a water intake (Tyrolean weir) for the purpose of extracting extinguishing water for the Felbertauern tunnel.

At the beginning of the 21st century there were plans on the part of the Felbertauernstraßen-AG to use the Daberbach as an energy source for the operation of the Felbertauern tunnel. For this purpose, a version of the Daberbach was at 1775  m above sea level. A. and a pressure line with a length of 825 meters to a power station building just above the estuary were planned. However, due to the small amount of developed water and the strongly fluctuating water supply, the project was only attested to a low level of public interest, whereby the project would at the same time have been a major intervention in the habitat, the natural balance and the landscape. Therefore, the project did not receive a nature conservation permit. However, Felbertauernstrassen AG continued to pursue plans to build a power plant in the early 2010s.
