The Dacia 1100 is a mid-range car produced by the Romanian automaker Dacia . It is identical to the Renault 8 and was manufactured by Dacia under license .
history
Dacia had had a license agreement with Renault for the construction of a mid-range car since September 1966 . The announced Renault 12 was to be manufactured under license as the Dacia 1300 in the Piteşti automobile plant . Since this model was not yet available, the rear-engined car R8 was built as the Dacia 1100 to bridge the gap . The individual parts imported from France were painted and assembled in series from August 20, 1968. From 1969 onwards, parts from Romanian production were increasingly used, for example tires, discs, coolers and thermostats. The basic mechanical assemblies and the body continued to come from France. After production of the Dacia 1300 (R12) started in 1969, production of the Dacia 1100 ended at the end of 1970. A total of 26,582 Dacia 1100s were assembled, of which 2,030 in 1968, 12,375 in 1969 and 12,177 in 1970.
