Daewon David Song (born Song Dae-won , as an athlete Daewon Song ; born February 19, 1975 in Seoul ) is a professional American skateboarder of Korean descent .

Song was in Seoul ( South Korea born). His family moved to Hawaii when he was one year old. When they were two years old they moved to Gardena, California . Here, Song grew up with his grandparents and older sister and began skateboarding at the age of 13. He drives mainly street and by default in the goofy position. After just a few years he was discovered on a demo tour by a talent scout from the skateboard company Gemco and signed up. He was later sponsored by World Industries and also appeared in their 1992 video Love Child . Seven years later, he canceled the contract and started his own company called Deca . In 2006, Song was named Skater Of The Year by Thrasher skateboarding magazine . In the same year he won the Annual TransWorld SKATEboarding Award in the category Video Part of the Year for his video performance Skate More . Currently, Song is sponsored by Tensor , Adidas , Spitfire , Matix and Active Mailorder . His most famous skateboard video is titled Rodney Mullen vs. Daewon song that he shot with good friend Rodney Mullen . Song Dae-won is also a playable character in some parts of the Tony Hawk's Skateboarding - video game series .

He is considered one of the best technical professional skaters in the world.

In October 2018, Daewon announced in a story on his Instagram account that after 15 years he no longer skated for his board sponsor Almost Skateboards. Together with Torey Pudwill, Song founded the Thankyouskateco brand.

Private

Song is a Pescetarian and has a son. He lives in San Pedro, Los Angeles .
