Dagny Lüdemann

Dagny Lüdemann (* 1975 in Hamburg ) is a German science journalist , biologist and head of the Knowledge / Digital / Time Campus department at Zeit Online in Berlin. She writes and is responsible for articles in the areas of nature conservation , zoology , genetic engineering , infection biology , health and astronomy .

Life

Lüdemann studied Biology and French at the University of Hamburg and Modern French Literature (Lettres Modernes) at the Université Paul Valéry in Montpellier, France. During his studies, Lüdemann worked, among other things, as an online editor for medicine and health topics at the Hamburg agency for internet communication GiveMe5 .

After completing her master's degree, a language stay in Granada, Spain, as well as editorial internships at Spektrum der Wissenschaft , Tagesspiegel and PM-Magazin , she wrote as a freelance writer for the magazines GEO and Astronomie heute as well as for the online portal Spektrumdirekt.de. From 2005 to 2007 she completed a traineeship at Tagesspiegel in Berlin, where she then worked as a science journalist and was responsible for the newspaper's health page. In 2008 she switched from the daily newspaper to ZEIT ONLINE and expanded the science department there as an editor. Since 2011 she has been heading the ZEIT-ONLINE department group Knowledge / Digital / ZEIT Campus.

The journalist lives in Berlin and Hamburg, is a scuba diver and is privately committed to marine protection. In 2015 she worked on a sabbatical for three months as a volunteer for the NGO Seaturtle Conservation Bonaire (STCB) in the Netherlands Antilles .

Prizes and awards

In 2015, Lüdemann and her team - including science journalists Sven Stockrahm and Alina Schadwinkel - were nominated for a Grimme Online Award and received a Lead Award for the multimedia dossier "Who is allowed to live?" The dossier, which has been translated into easy language , describes the opportunities and risks of modern prenatal diagnostics and their consequences for people with chromosomal peculiarities, such as Down syndrome .

In 2017 she was awarded the Universitas Prize for Science Journalism . The Hanns Martin Schleyer Foundation is honoring her longstanding work as a bridge builder between science and society. It is thanks to their commitment that “scientific topics are increasingly perceived and reflected upon, especially among the younger generation,” writes the foundation in its justification.

Lüdemann is a member of the Science Press Conference (WPK) and was on the board from 2011 to 2015. She sits on the main jury of the Franco-German Journalism Award as well as the Memento Award for Neglected Diseases and the NaturVision Film Festival jury . At Zeit Online , Lüdemann regularly trains graduates of the Science Journalism course at the University of Dortmund as volunteers to become science editors.
