The Dalfazalm is a privately managed refuge in the Rofan Mountains in Tyrol . It is located at an altitude of 1693 m in the municipality of Eben am Achensee . The name Dalfaz has Roman origins and means "where they make hay".

history

The oldest building on the Dalfazalm is a dairy hut from 1664, in which historical milk processing equipment is exhibited today. Contemporary records of the pasture's history no longer exist, as all documents that were archived in the valley were destroyed in a fire. With the construction of the Rofan cable car in the 1950s, the number of visitors increased noticeably, so that the existing alpine buildings no longer offered sufficient capacity. From 1981 to 1984 the Dalfazalm was expanded and rebuilt to its present form.

Agriculture

Dairy cows , young cattle , pigs and sheep are kept on the mountain pastures of the Dalfazalm from spring to cattle drive .

Others

In the 1930s, a dairyman found a dagger blade in the area of the Dalfazalm that was dated to the Middle Bronze Age . This find, in connection with an old high path from Maurach to the northern edge of the Achensee, is seen as evidence of the prehistoric use of the alpine pastures as pasture .

The roofs of some of the Almgebäude are in traditional Legschindel executed construction method. The shingles are laid without nails, they are placed on wooden poles (so-called collars ) and provided with stones ( heavy stones ) for weighting .
