The Brandenberg Alps are a mountain group of the Northern Limestone Alps in the Eastern Alps . They are located entirely in Austria in the state of Tyrol between Achensee , Inntal and the Bavarian Prealps . The highest elevation in the Brandenberg Alps is the Hochiss ( 2299  m above sea level ) in the Rofan main ridge.

The western part (Western Brandenberger Alps), the area between the Brandenberger Ache and Achensee, is known as the Rofan Mountains ( Rofan or Sonnwendgebirge for short ). It consists of a central group of mountains and three rather isolated mountains. The Guffert ( 2194  m above sea level ), which forms an independent mountain range, has a special position outside the central group . It is located north of Steinberg am Rofan between the Tegernsee Blue Mountains and the central Rofan. The useless at the northern end of the Achensee east of Achenkirch and the Ebner Joch east of Maurach at the southern end of the Achensee are also outside the central mountain range. The eastern part (Eastern Brandenberg Alps) extends as a shuttle train from Steinberg / Brandenberg to Kufstein .
