Wettersteingebirge and Miemingerkette is the name of the mountain group AVE 4 according to the Alpine Association classification of the Eastern Alps . The group consists of two subgroups:
- Wetterstein Mountains , northern part in Bavaria (Germany) and Tyrol (Austria)
- Mieminger Mountains , southern part in Tyrol (Austria)
The mountain group belongs to the Northern Limestone Alps in the Eastern Alps . It is located between Garmisch-Partenkirchen , Mittenwald , Seefeld in Tirol , Ehrwald , Imst and Zirl . Germany with the Free State of Bavaria and Austria with the State of Tyrol have a share . The main summit of the Wetterstein, the Zugspitze , is also the highest mountain in Germany.
Both parts of the mountains are separated by the Gaistal (Gaisbach, Gaistalbach or Igelseebach and Leutascher Ache), in which there are numerous alpine pastures, such as B .:
- Hochfeldernalm: Altitude 1732 m, open in summer and winter, Ehrwald valley
- Seebenalm: altitude 1575 m, open in summer, Ehrwald valley
- Tillfussalm: altitude 1382 m, open in summer. Valley town of Leutasch
- Gaistalalm: altitude 1366 m, cultivated in summer, valley town of Leutasch
