Dalserf is a hamlet in the north of the Scottish Council Area South Lanarkshire or in the traditional county of Lanarkshire . It is located around three kilometers east of Larkhall, eleven kilometers southeast of Hamilton on the left bank of the Clyde .

history

An 11th century Norman hogback can be found in the graveyard of Dalserf Parish Church . This suggests that it has been a Christian site since then at the latest. It may have been a chapel dedicated to Serf or Machan. However, the oldest parts of today's Dalserf Parish Church date from 1655.

In the 1790s was Thomas Carmichael, 5th Earl of Hyndford the on the opposite bank of the Clyde mansion Mauldslie Castle built. A bridge with a lodge in front spans the Clyde to Dalserf. The building designed by Robert Adam was demolished in 1935.

In the past, iron ore, coal and sandstone were mined in the area around Dalserf.

In the whole of Parish , whose main town is Dalserf, 9,376 inhabitants were counted in 1881. In the course of the 1961 census survey, 102 people were counted in the village.

traffic

The A72 ( Galashiels - Hamilton ) forms the main thoroughfare of Dalserf and connects the village directly to the trunk road network. The A71 ( Edinburgh - Irvine ) and the M74 motorway can be reached within a few kilometers.

In 1866 a station was opened in Dalserf along a branch line of the Caledonian Railway . The station was initially closed in January 1941 and then reopened in May 1945. On October 1, 1951, it was finally abandoned.
