Damien Magee (born November 17, 1945 in Belfast ) is a former Northern Irish racing driver .

Career

Damien Magee showed early in his career that he had the talent to compete in international motorsport. Like many others, however, he never really managed to gain a foothold. Initially racing in the English Formula Junior Championship , at the beginning of the 1970s he drove everything that had four wheels. The disadvantage of this was that he wasn't very picky when it came to selecting teams and that he rarely got competitive vehicles.

Nevertheless, he also made the leap into Formula 1 . At the Swedish Grand Prix in Anderstorp in 1975 , he replaced Arturo Merzario in the underfunded team Frank Williams Racing Cars for a race . It was enough for 14th place. A second attempt to qualify for a world championship run failed at the French Grand Prix in Le Castellet in 1976 : only 27th in training with the Brabham - BT44-B - Cosworth of the private team RAM Racing . In 1977 and 1978 Magee still drove in the Shellsport G8 series in Great Britain, after which he retired from racing.
