Dan Costa

Dan Costa (born April 7, 1989 in London ) is a British jazz pianist and composer .

Costa was born in London to a Portuguese father and an Italian mother. He started playing the piano at the age of eleven. After six years of teaching at the Académie de Musique Rainier III in Monaco and further teaching in Nice and at the Swedish Aurora Music Star Festival , he moved to the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts in 2009 to study . He then studied jazz at the Escola Superior de Música e Artes do Espectáculo in Porto (Portugal); From 2012 to 2013 he lived in São Paulo for a year to study Brazilian music at the Universidade Estadual de Campinas .

After completing his studies, Costa released his debut album Suite Três Rios , which was recorded in Rio de Janeiro and mixed by Jan Erik Kongshaug . On the album he worked with Jaques Morelenbaum , Leila Pinheiro , Ricardo Silveira , Teco Cardoso , Marcos Suzano and other musicians. The album received 4.5 out of five stars from All About Jazz and four out of five stars from American magazine Down Beat . It reached the top 10 in iTunes sales in Portugal and was # 1 in jazz albums. It also reached the top 10 in the US.

In 2018 he recorded the album Skyness with his own compositions and the musicians Seamus Blake , Roberto Menescal , Nelson Faria, Romero Lubambo , Teco Cardoso, Jorge Helder and Custodio Castelo, which he presented at the Blue Note jazz club in Rio.
