Dan Panaggio

Daniel "Dan" Panaggio (* 1955 ) is an American basketball coach .

career

Panaggio from Rochester ( New York State ) played basketball at the State University of New York at Brockport from 1973 to 1977, with his brother Mike being his teammate there at times. During this time he scored 1601 points and was therefore in first place in the university team's "eternal basket hunter list" when he left university in 1977. He then became a coach like his father Mauro, for whom he and his brother had played at university. He initially oversaw the team at McQuaid Jesuit High School in his hometown of Rochester and from 1985 to 1988 the team at Monroe Community College in the same state. From 1988 he was assistant coach of Quad City Thunder in the US league CBA, in 1991 he rose to head coach there and remained in office until 2000. In February 1992 he met the team on the CBA competitor Rockford Lightning, who was trained by his father. In 1994 and 1998 he led Quad City to win the CBA championship, and was named CBA Coach of the Year three times during his tenure at Quad City. He led the team to a total of 313 wins (with 191 defeats) and in each season in the championship round. In the spring 2000 season he was coach of the Venezuelan team Trotamundos. In the 2000/01 season he worked as an assistant coach at Indiana University.

From 2001 to 2005 Panaggio was assistant coach with the Portland Trail Blazers in the NBA , in the 2005/06 game year he held this post at Marquette University . Between 2006 and 2009 he was the head coach of the Los Angeles D-Fenders , the training team of the Los Angeles Lakers , in the NBA D-League , and was also part of the coaching staff of the Lakers, who became NBA champions during this time in 2009 and 2010 . In 2008 he was responsible for the Lakers as coach in the NBA summer league. in the 2009/10 season Panaggio worked as a player scorer for the Lakers and in the 2010/11 season in an identical position with the Phoenix Suns .

Panaggio then moved to China, he took over the coaching position at the Shanghai Sharks in 2011. In January 2013 he resigned as a coach after winning only four of 17 games with the team in the previous season, but remained active as an advisor for Shanghai. From January to July 2014 he was a consultant on the staff of the Phoenix Suns. In 2015 he and his brother Mike founded the DME Sports Academy in Daytona Beach , Florida . In addition to working for the sports school, Panaggio was a consultant for the Chinese club Shenzhen Leopards from August 2015 to January 2016. In September 2018 he became sports director of the German Bundesliga club Eisbären Bremerhaven and joined the Eisbären as a partner together with his brother. In mid-December 2018, Panaggio took over as coach in Bremerhaven after Arne Woltmann was fired . At the end of February 2019, he resigned as Bremerhaven coach after all eleven Bundesliga games that the Eisbären played under his direction had been lost. But he remained in office as polar bear sports director before giving up this task in summer 2019.
