Miranda Cosgrove (2010)

In October 2010 Cosgrove announced some dates for their new tour. This was initially called Sparks Fly Tour , named after their first studio album Sparks Fly ; later it was renamed Dancing Crazy Tour . On January 3, 2011, it was announced that Cosgrove was working on an EP, and eight days later she tweeted a picture from the photo shoot for the EP. The single Dancing Crazy was released on December 21, 2010 on download websites such as iTunes and Amazon .

composition

Avril Lavigne wrote the song about dancing through the night.

Dancing Crazy is a medium tempo pop rock track with lyrics about Cosgrove and her friends going out and having a party. The single was written in the verse - refrain form. It begins with the first stanza and after a transition the refrain follows. This is followed by the second stanza, another transition and the refrain again. The third verse has a slower melody followed by the final chorus; the song ends with the word " Smack ". Cosgrove said in a making-of of the song: "Dancing Crazy 'is such fun. I just think about going out with my friends, going to parties and having a good time. "

Commonsensemedia wrote: “Dancing Crazy […] has one thing in mind: getting started on the dance floor until the wee hours of the morning. Written by Avril Lavigne, the song describes staying out all night, spending most of the time dancing (with a little kiss thrown in) - 'You, me in the spotlight / Running around till the end of the night / Hot, hot keep it comin '/ We can rock out till the early morning.' [ You, me in the spotlight / Running around until the end of the night / Hot, hot, keep going / We can rock out until tomorrow morning ] While these actions are not necessarily irresponsible, they may be a little dubious for the youngest tweens . "

reception

criticism

Instead of positive reviews like Cosgrove's previous song Kissin U , Dancing Crazy received negative reviews. The Idolator website wrote, “Poppy! Fun! Pretty 80s bananarama-ish! In particular the 'You! Me! In the spotlight! 'Part sounds like' Girlfriend 'Avril, not to mention the inconspicuous guitar in the transition. We believe this track didn't make it onto Lavigne's next album, Goodbye Lullaby, and that Miranda snagged her trash. Still, even as a remnant, it's a lovely title and just like what she did with Kesha's disgusting , Miranda can pull it off. But for a song called 'Dancing Crazy' a little more musical craziness - or maybe an extra beat to speed it up - would have been nice to add insanity to it. "

Reflectiveinklings gave a mixed criticism: “In Dancing Crazy, like with 'Kissin U', a nice oomph was built into it. However, the similarity of the two singles mentioned above becomes immediately clear after the comparison. While 'Kissin U' surprised me because it showed Cogrove's sovereign voice, Dancing Crazy does the opposite. Dancing Crazy presents the audience with what they may have heard from other singers in the past. In short, yes, this song is a little ordinary. The title is likely to be played a few times due to its low charm (which will completely entice the kids who really love their series) and after the listener's curiosity the magic wanes. This is a step back for Cosgrove. Let's hope she gets back on her feet quickly. "

Commensensemedia gave the song three stars out of five and wrote: “Cosgrove's music suffers from the same problems as some of its colleagues (like Selena Gomez ): low-level vocals and the same old synth-pop beat. In the end, it's hard to tell this song apart from the sea of similar-sounding pieces out there, so overall it's a pretty easy-to-forget title. "

Live performances

The song was first performed on Cosgrove's Dancing Crazy Tour , which began in January 2011. He is the 14th and final title on the tour. Another live appearance was on March 9, 2011 on an episode of the Ellen DeGeneres Show . Several children danced around Cosgrove, and at the beginning of the final chorus, Greyson Chance , who had started the Dancing Crazy Tour, joined in and sang with her. On March 15th, the album's release date, she performed at the Hard Rock Cafe in Hollywood . On the Dancing Crazy Summer Tour was Dancing Crazy the last track and sang along with chance.

Music video

The music video for Dancing Crazy was announced by Cosgrove during an interview on the Today Show , where an excerpt from the video was also shown. It was released on February 13, 2011. In a making-of , she said: “Basically, in the video, I sneak out of the house with my friends in this cool red classic car. As we drive, other cars appear behind us and other people who are our friends follow us. And we all arrive at this high school. We sneak up on the football field and just have that big party. Dancing Crazy is just about going out and having fun. One of my best friends in the world is in the video and it will be fun to just dance and have fun with her. "

At the beginning of the video, several girls are waiting in their car for Cosgrove in front of their house. It's eleven in the evening and Cosgrove gets out of bed, takes her coat and sneaks out of the house to the girls. As they drive away from the house, she sees her teenage neighbor walking his dog. The two make eye contact for a moment and smile at each other. At the beginning of the first verse, Cosgrove and her friends sit in the car, dance to the music and drive down the street. During the transition, they are followed by other vehicles with teenagers in them; they're going to the local high school . When the chorus begins, they jump over a football field fence that already has a car and speakers. There they turn on the music and everyone starts dancing together. After that, footage of Cosgrove is alternately shown sitting in the moving car and how she is on the football field. At the beginning of the second verse, she is sitting in the car on the football field. More people join them, including the boy next door Cosgrove saw leaving the house. During the chorus, everyone forms a circle and some of them break dance in the center of the circle. At the end of the second chorus, Cosgrove and her neighbor notice each other and she walks over to him. When the third stanza begins, they go to the uncovered grandstand, where they chat and laugh. He puts his arm around her and shortly afterwards they hold hands. At the end of the third stanza they kiss. During the final chorus, the two dance together by the car in the field. In between, several recordings of young people dancing breakdancing are shown. When the sprinklers come on , everyone leaves the field. Then you see Cosgrove driving back in the car with her friends. She arrives home at sunrise and waves goodbye to her friends. She sneaks into her room and lies down on the bed. When she tries to fall asleep, her alarm clock starts ringing. The video ends with her hitting the snooze button.
