The Danish MP Kenneth Kristensen Berth said in an interview in 2016: “At the moment we are waiting for the results of the British negotiations with the EU; on the relationship between Great Britain and the EU. I'm pretty sure that the result will be such that it might be interesting to have Danish voters vote on it too. "

Political positions

Representatives of the Danish right-wing populists had already called for a separate referendum on leaving the EU in the run-up to the British vote on June 23, 2016 . The head of Dansk Folkeparti (DF), Kristian Thulesen Dahl , called for a referendum. It is not yet clear whether Denmark would like such a solution. The liberal party Venstre , like the other parties, is against this proposal.

The politician Søren Espersen (DF) is interested in bringing the whole of Schleswig back to Denmark. He had said exactly, "We would like to have a Denmark up to the Eider (...) of course".

Morten Messerschmidt , also a member of the Dansk Folkeparti (DF), predicted in early 2020 that his country would leave the European Union within the next 10 years. He believes Brexit will be a great success.

history

Denmark has been part of the EU since 1973, but often takes a Europe-skeptical position. Denmark has already plunged the EU into complicated situations twice: In 1992 , the Danes voted against the Maastricht Treaties , which had to be renegotiated after the No from Copenhagen . In 2000, a small majority of votes against decided not to want to introduce the euro as the new currency. According to surveys, a majority of respondents would like to remain in the EU. A third of the respondents wanted to have their country's relations with Brussels voted in a referendum at a later date if the UK left . In a 2016 survey, 27% of respondents were in favor of leaving the EU immediately and 30% of respondents were in favor of staying in the EU, while 43% did not want to commit or had no opinion.
