Daniel Alphonse Omer Verstraete

Daniel Alphonse Omer Verstraete OMI (born July 31, 1924 in Oostrozebeke ) is Former Bishop of Klerksdorp in South Africa and participant in the last session of the Second Vatican Council .

Life

Daniel Alphonse Omer Verstraete joined the congregation of the Huenfeld Oblates and was ordained a priest on February 19, 1950 .

Paul VI appointed him on November 9, 1965 as Apostolic Prefect of the newly established West Transvaal Prefecture . On February 27, 1978, the prefecture was elevated to a bishopric , and Verstraete became the first bishop of Klerksdorp . The Archbishop of Bloemfontein Peter Fanyana John Butelezi OMI ordained him on 14 May of the same year Bishop ; Co- consecrators were George Francis Daniel , Archbishop of Pretoria and Hugh Boyle , Bishop Emeritus of Johannesburg .

On March 26, 1994, Verstraete resigned from office for health reasons.
