One of his whist stamps with the fableFrom the fox and raven ” by the Greek poet Aesop .

Loos was a student of Friedrich Stieler (1705–1758) in Altenburg, from 1754 at the Leipzig Mint and from 1756/57 in Magdeburg at the local mint . In 1768 he became the first medalist at the Prussian main mint in Berlin and later became royal Prussian court medalist. The L (Loos) in the arm section of the bust on Prussian Friedrich d'ors from 1800 to 1814 testifies to his activity as a medalist at the Berlin Mint. On May 1, 1816, he celebrated his 60th professional anniversary in the Prussian service "with loyalty and distinction" and a bronze medal made by his colleague Gottlieb Goetze was minted. His son Gottfried Bernhard Loos continued his father's profession and business after his death as a medal institute . The main shop was located in Ober-Wasserstraße near the Jungfernbrücke and advertised in an address book with "In this institution you can find a very considerable range of historical memorial coins, occasional coins suitable as a gift , among other things in this establishment in gold , silver and English bronze [...] even Boston, Wist- and l'hombre-blocks and Whistmarken of very different kinds. [...] A printed directory of all viable varieties obtained in Comptoir . "

Loos had at least two sons:

  • Friedrich Wilhelm Loos (approx. 1767–1819) the eldest son worked with his father in Berlin and died shortly afterwards.
  • Gottfried Bernhard Loos (August 6, 1774 - July 29, 1843), 1806 to 1812 mint master and founder of the G. Loos medal factory in Berlin, which was later run by Ludwig Ostermann (1843–1879), then by Emil Krüger (1879–1895) and from 1895 was continued by Arthur Krüger .
    • Daniel Loos, son of Gottfried Bernhard Loos, briefly his successor as director of the company.

The family also includes the die cutters Georg Friedrich Loos , active from 1742 to 1766 in Nuremberg and Würzburg, and Karl Friedrich Loos , active from 1756 to 1770 in Nuremberg.

Loos was a member and assessor in the Senate of the Royal Prussian Academy of Fine Arts in Berlin.
