Daniel Huber (mathematician)
Daniel Huber (born June 23, 1768 in Basel ; † December 3, 1829 ibid) was a Swiss mathematician and astronomer at the University of Basel , of which he was regularly rector in 1804.
Life
He was the son of the astronomer Johann Jakob Huber (1733–1798) and his wife Rosina, née Rohner (1737–1812), and brother of the history professor and pastor Johann Rudolf Huber (1766–1806) - a co-founder of the Basel Bible Society . In 1802 he married Caroline Battier (1765-1825).
Huber studied classical philology and medicine in Basel . From 1792 he was a mathematics professor at Basel University and from 1802 director of the university library, which he considered in his legacy. He worked on comets , refraction , the secular parallax of the sun and the light change of the Algol . From 1815 he was involved in the trigonometric survey of the Basel area. In 1817 he founded the Natural Research Society in Basel .
