Daniel Lüdemann (also: Ludemann ; born April 10, 1621 in Pasewalk ; † September 20, 1677 in Stade ) was a German Lutheran theologian, consistorial councilor and general superintendent of the general diocese of Bremen-Verden .

Life

Daniel was the son of the judge Paul Lüdemann, whose father he lost in early childhood. After attending schools in Pasewalk and Stettin, he began studying at the University of Königsberg in 1640 . In 1646 he acquired the academic degree of a master's degree in philosophy and then completed a cavalier journey which took him to the University of Copenhagen , the University of Rostock and the University of Greifswald . When he returned home, he took on a position as a teacher and cantor. Thanks to honorable sponsors, he was able to continue his studies at the University of Wittenberg and the University of Leipzig . In 1648 he was appointed court and field preacher to Count Palatine Karl X. Gustav .

After giving a sermon for peace in St. Thomas' Church in Leipzig on January 1, 1649 , he received his doctorate in theology from the University of Jena and accompanied his employer to Nuremberg and Sweden. There he met Queen Christina of Sweden , among others , who on June 22, 1651 appointed him general superintendent of Western Pomerania and professor of theology at the University of Greifswald. However, he turned down this appointment and followed a call on February 7, 1652 as senior pastor at the Bremen Cathedral , as well as superintendent of Bremen. On March 15, 1672 he became general superintendent of Bremen and Verden and finally present at the spiritual consistory in Stade, where he ended his life. His body was buried in Bremen.
