Daniel Mindel

Daniel Mindel (born May 27, 1958 in Johannesburg , South Africa ) is an American cameraman .

Life

Mindel was born in South Africa but received his education in Australia and the UK . He began his career in the film business as a camera assistant in the early 1980s. Through his participation in additional recordings for the film Desire in 1983, he came into contact with the directors Ridley and Tony Scott . He worked with the two of them on the production of commercials and also worked on their film projects well into the 1990s.

Mindel's first independent work as a cameraman took place in 1992 on two episodes of the series Foxy Fantasies . Smaller projects followed, and finally in 1998 the film Der Staatsfeind Nr. 1 , in which Mindel first worked as chief cameraman for Tony Scott. Other joint films followed.

The 2006 action film Mission: Impossible III was the first collaboration with director JJ Abrams . Further collaborations followed in 2009 with Star Trek , Star Trek Into Darkness in 2013 and Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015) and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019).

Mindel has been a member of the American Society of Cinematographers since 2008 . In November 2010 he became a member of the British Society of Cinematographers.

Mindel is married.
