Daniel Schreiber

Daniel Schreiber (* 1977 ) is a German author and journalist .

Life

Daniel Schreiber grew up in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . After graduating from high school in 1996, he studied general and comparative literature, Slavic studies, theater studies and performance studies in Berlin and New York with the help of the German National Academic Foundation and the Fulbright Commission . He lived in New York for six years, where he also wrote the book “ Susan Sontag . Spirit and Glamor, ”wrote the first comprehensive biography of American intellectuals. In 2014 the biography was published in American translation as “Susan Sontag. A Biography ". In 2009, after his return to Berlin, he worked for a year as an editor at the art magazine Monopol and then switched to the political magazine Cicero , where he headed the cultural department until the end of 2012. His texts have appeared in Die Zeit , in Tagesspiegel , in the magazines Weltkunst , Du , Philosophie Magazin , Literaturen and Theater heute , in Deutschlandradio Kultur and in many art catalogs and collections of articles. He wrote the monthly column “Sober” for the daily newspaper (taz) . For ZEITmagazin Online, he alternated with the author Tania Witte to write the column "The other way round is not better". In August 2014 his book “Nüchtern. About drinking and happiness ”published by Hanser Verlag Berlin, in which he tells his personal story and deals with the German attitude towards drinking and not drinking. Schreiber lives in Berlin.
