Daniel Zahno
Daniel Zahno (born November 18, 1963 in Basel ) is a Swiss writer .
Life
Daniel Zahno studied German and English at the University of Basel ; he completed his studies with a thesis on the symbolism of the butterfly in literature. In 1996 he published his award-winning first work, the volume of short stories Doctor Turban . Critics saw it as "stories that get under your skin" and "a desire for language that awakens the desire to read" (NZZ). In 2002 he took part in the Ingeborg Bachmann Competition in Klagenfurt . In 2006 the book “Im Hundum Turn” - “astute, imaginative language games” (NZZ) was published.
Zahno's first novel "Die Gelatiere" (2009), a Venetian romance novel about the ice cream maker Alvise and his beloved Noemi, was received with great interest and overwhelmingly enthusiastically. The “magically relaxed narrative tone” (Weltwoche) and the “prancing limbo” (NZZ) of the text were highlighted. The love and job happiness of the main character immediately turns into reading happiness. "In his debut novel, the Swiss Daniel Zahno tells this dreamy love story in a light and melancholy way" (Der Spiegel).
Daniel Zahno lives as an author in Basel. He is a member of the Swiss Authors ' Association . In 2003 he was a guest at the Istituto Svizzero di Roma in Venice. In 2004 he made a reading tour through the Baltic States, in 2007 one through the USA (Chicago, San Francisco, Berkeley, San Jose, Seattle, Salt Lake City, Ogden, Baltimore). In 2010 he was Writer-in-Residence at the German House of New York University.
