Daniela Sea (* 1977 in Malibu , California ) is an American actress and musician , best known for her role as transsexual Max Sweeney in the series The L Word .

Life

Daniela Sea grew up in Malibu before moving to Hawaii for a few years with her stepfather, a former manager at the Motown record label , and the family . At the age of 16, Sea moved from home to the punk artist collective Gilman Street Project in Berkeley , California , later studied acting improvisation and theater at Laney Community College in Oakland and performed with various punk bands .

Sea traveled the world for several years, tending goats in abandoned villages in Italy , hitchhiking through Turkey , performing as a fire juggler with a traveling circus in Poland and living in India for eight months .

Back in the US, she first lived in New York City when she realized that acting is what she loves. She auditioned for and got the role for John Cameron Mitchell 's Shortbus . She then produced a demo film about herself, sent it to someone who wrote for the US television series The L Word - When women love women , who in turn passed it on to the series director, Rose Troche . Sea got the role of transsexual Max Sweeney, whom she played from seasons three through six.

Daniela Sea also starred in the 2007 film Itty Bitty Titty Committee and guest starred in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit in February 2009 .

Sea is a member of the punk band The Thorns of Life .
