Danielle Scott-Arruda (born October 1, 1972 in Baton Rouge , Louisiana , United States ) is an American volleyball player . She took part in five Olympic tournaments and became vice world champion in 2002.

Career

Scott-Arruda began playing volleyball as a student at Woodlawn High School in her hometown. There she was also active in basketball , softball and athletics . When she joined California State University on a scholarship in 1990 , she continued to play volleyball and basketball. In 1993 she was named "National Player of the Year" and helped her team win the NCAA championship. After graduating in 1994, she was called up to the national team and focused for three years on the US team, with which she won the 1995 World Grand Prix . In 1996 in Atlanta she took part in the Olympic Games for the first time and in the following season she moved to Italy to Gierre Roma and won the CEV Cup . In the summer of 1997 she tested a volleyball variant with four players before going to Brazil for Uniao São Paulo for a year . Then she limited herself to the national team again for three years. She also made unsuccessful attempts in the Women's National Basketball Association . In the summer of 2000, she not only experienced her second Olympic volleyball tournament, but also competed as a beach volleyball player at the FIVB World Tour tournament in Madrid and at two tournaments on the American AVP Tour . After winning the NORCECA championship and the Grand Prix 2001 (as the most valuable player as well as the best scorer and blocker), she continued her club career in Brazil at BCN Osasco . At the 2002 World Cup , as the tournament's best blocker, she played a major role in making it into the final, which the USA lost in the tie-break against Italy. The following season Scott-Arruda played for the Japanese club Pioneer Red Wings . After she defended the NORCECA title with the national team in 2003 and won the Pan-American tournament for the first time , she moved to Italy to the Chieri Volley Club , with which she won the Top Teams Cup . A year later she was active for the third time in a row at the Olympic Games and in 2005 she managed the triple at the continental championship. In the 2006/07 and 2007/08 seasons she was under contract with the Brazilian clubs Cimed Macae and Finasa Osasco . In 2008 in Beijing she achieved the greatest success in this competition by winning the silver medal at her fourth participation in the Olympic Games. Then she moved again to Italy to Florens Castellana Grotte . In 2012 in London she was able to win the silver medal again in her fifth Olympic participation.

Private

In the fall of 1994, Scott-Arruda received her BA in Liberal Arts from California State University . On July 15, 2006, she married the Brazilian volleyball player Eduardo "Pezao" Arruda in her hometown.
