Danny Exnar

Danny Exnar (* 1981 in Liestal ) is a Swiss actor and pianist.

Danny Exnar, who is also a Swiss citizen, studied piano in Prague for one year (specializing in jazz) with Karel Růžička and Zdeněk Páleníček after graduating from high school , followed by two semesters of philosophy at the University of Bern . In 2007 he completed his acting studies at the Otto Falckenberg School in Munich. In addition, lessons at the Swiss Jazz School and at the Neue Jazzschool Munich with Max Neissendorfer . While still studying acting, he made guest appearances at the Münchner Kammerspiele and the Landestheater Tübingen . In 2009/2010 he was trained in the English stage language at the Juilliard School in New York .

At the Landestheater Tübingen he appeared in 2006 in Iphigenie auf Tauris under the direction of Alexander Nerlich and in 2007 in The Death of Empedocles based on the fragment by Friedrich Hölderlin under the direction of Christian Schlueter. From 2007 to 2009 he was a permanent member of the ensemble at the Landestheater Tübingen and worked a. a. with Reto Finger , Cilli Drexel , Mario Portmann, Ralf Siebelt, Simone Sterr and Dietrich Sübers. In the 2010/2011 season he was at the Schauspielhaus Zürich in Stiller (Max Frisch) under the direction of Heike M. Goetze as an actor and pianist. In 2013/2014 he played at the Biel Solothurn Theater Orchester in Much Ado About Nothing and was responsible for the musical direction. In 2014/2015 he performed in Zurich and Berlin in the musical theater production "stuck" after the film noir elevator to the scaffold by Louis Malle (director: Mélanie Huber).

In the 2015/2016 season he was engaged as pianist Erwin Bootz in the production Die Comedian Harmonists ( Franz Wittenbrink and Gottfried Greiffenhagen ) under the direction of Mathias Schönsee at the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus . He was also responsible for the music in the Mephisto production based on Klaus Mann (director: Thomas Schulte-Michels ).

On October 18, 2011, the world premiere of the musical theater performance Glenn Gould vs. Glenn Gould in the Carl-Orff-Saal in the Gasteig . Danny Exnar plays the Canadian pianist Glenn Gould , with him on stage is the countertenor Christopher Robson , the set is designed by the painter Bernd Zimmer and directed by Gert Pfafferodt. The performance is the result of many years of continuous work and intensive preoccupation with the life and work of Glenn Gould. Danny Exnar plays two versions of this performance, one in German and one in English.

In addition to his work as an actor, pianist and musical director, Danny Exnar works as a speaker.
