Darío Franco (born January 17, 1969 in Cruz Alta , Córdoba ) is an Argentine football coach and former player on the position of defender .

Life

player

Franco began his active career with the Newell's Old Boys , with whom he won the Argentine football championship in the 1990/91 season .

Immediately after this success he moved to Real Saragossa in the Spanish Primera División . With the team from Aragon he won the Spanish Cup competition in the 1993/94 season and the European Cup Winners' Cup in the following season .

In the summer of 1995 he moved to the Mexican league , where he first played two and a half years for Atlas Guadalajara and then more than six years at Monarcas Morelia under contract, where he ended his active career. With the Monarcas he won the winter tournament of the 2000/01 season.

Between 1991 and 1994 Franco completed a total of 22 international appearances for the Argentine national team , in which he scored six goals. With the Gauchos he won the Copa America twice in a row during this period ( 1991 and 1993 ); Incidentally, to this day the only title of the record winner in this competition since 1959 .

Trainer

After finishing his active career, he worked in the coaching staff of the Monarcas and was promoted to head coach after a false start in the Clausura 2006 , when only one point was scored in the first four games.
