Darco (* 1968 in Bielefeld ; actually Darco Gellert ) is a German-French graffiti writing artist who lives and works in Paris.

Life

Darco came to France with his parents in 1976 , where he first attended the international German school in Paris .

In 1984 he started spraying with his friend Gawki. In 1985, she created the sprayer group FBI Crew ( F abulous B OMB I Nability ) that also Loomit , Cemnoz , neon and DAIM joined and which became an international art collective. In 1987 Darco was accepted into the United Artists .

In 1989 Darco was the first sprayer in France to be convicted of property damage. The SNCF (French Railways), influenced by various ministers and the media, decided that Darco could work off his sentence in the form of murals for the railroad company. Among other things, the 1000 m² mural at Gare du Nord in Paris was created. From 1989 to 1991 Darco trained as a set designer , but has been working as a freelance artist ever since.

His specialty is style writing . Although he retains the outlines (contours), his style is often assigned to the 3D style .

Projects

In 1998 he created a 350 m² mural in Nantes for the World Cup, together with Loomit , DAIM and others .

Sign of the times . Otto-Schumann-Weg, Hamburg-Lohbrügge (Bergedorf)

Darco took over the artistic direction together with DAIM for “ Signs of the Times” in Hamburg . The work got an entry in the Guinness Book of Records for the tallest graffiti in the world. Under the organizational direction of Lothar Knode, the graffito of a total of 300 m² was created on a high-rise facade in December 1995. The artists needed 1000 spray cans for the 30 meter high and 11 meter wide work of art. It shows a composition of text and picture elements as well as quotations from masterpieces of wall painting.

Darco is artistic advisor to Jean-Jacques Brilleix and designed an overall concept for DJ Vadim's album The art of listening . Some of his works have been bought and exhibited by museums such as the Palais de Tokyo , the Center Georges Pompidou , the Musee des Arts et traditions populaires , the Kallmann Museum and the Grand Palais .
